Dairy Cows

Eliminate Dairy

Eliminate Dairy Products. My now two year old has had congestion for months, a very common cause of this is dairy and there are many more sources of calcium available. Many conventional milk products such as cheese, yogurt, ice cream, and butter have been altered with a synthetic GE bovine growth hormone (rBGH). Some studies have linked rBGH to elevated risks of cancer. When cows are given this hormone they have been known to suffer from shortened life spans, mastitis, increased birth defects, and high rates of diseases, infertility, and stress. Antibiotics fed to live stock can enter the human food chain, affecting the way that hormones are metabolized in our bodies.

Dr. Christiane Northrup, author of Women’s Bodies Women’s Wisdom, explained that women get relief from heavy menstrual bleeding, and endometriosis when they stop consuming dairy foods. She saw in her personal practice a link to dairy and chronic vaginal discharge, acne, menstrual cramps, fibroids, and intestinal upset. She noted that the patients who changed to organic dairy products sometimes saw a decrease in these symptoms.

Be willing to attempt to eliminate dairy in your own household for a couple of weeks to see the affect it has on your family. Many parents are worried about reducing calcium intake for their children, which is a normal concern. However, milk is actually not the best source of calcium and there are a lot of alternatives including increasing the amount dark green leafy vegetables, such as kale, collards and broccoli.

Our pediatricians were against any dairy after the age of two as they saw more harm in their clinic then benefits. For families whose children suffered from dairy allergies, they encouraged parents to give children organic goats milk alternating with almond milk and lots of calcium through their food. We personally had one daughter that suffered from a dairy allergy that covered her whole body in eczema, or a red rash. She adjusted well to a mix of almond and goats milk and loves her dark leafy greens, because that is what she has always been offered.
